Transition to Secondary School

Year 7 Transition

The transition from primary to secondary school is an exciting time for students and their parents. It is the next stage in a lifelong educational journey leading to new experiences and challenges.

Transition Information Packs

At the beginning of Term 2, Year 6 to Year 7 Transition Information Packs for schools and parents/carers are distributed and made available for download from the Department of Education and Training.

The packs include the following information:

  • Frequently Asked Questions
  • Application for Year 7 Placement 2022 form
  • Privacy Notice

Teacher Collaboration

We collaborate with many secondary schools to ease the students through the transition period. This is achieved through verbal and/or written communication between the child’s Year 6 teacher and a representative from the secondary school. The Grade 6 teachers at Bellbrae Primary School frequently visit our local secondary schools and have developed excellent professional relationships with our colleagues in many secondary schools.

Teaching & Learning Strategies

Steps are also taken to prepare children for the different teaching methods of secondary school. We use a variety of teaching strategies to ensure that the children develop skills in connecting and collaborating with a variety of teachers and students.

School Wide Positive Behaviours

We explicitly teach our students lessons related to Bellbrae’s School Values of Aspire, Responsibility, Respect and Resilience. Throughout Grade 6 our values lessons are linked to the challenges of transitioning from Grade 6 to Year 7.
