Foundation 2023

Starting school is an exciting time for both children and their families. At Bellbrae Primary School, students learn through exploring, questioning and play in the classroom and school community. Students will develop their understanding of school life whilst establishing positive learning behaviours and routines. We strive to ensure our students feel safe and connected by providing a warm and supportive classroom environment with a strong focus on hands-on learning. Our teaching program is individualised and caters for each student to experience success at school. We promote critical and creative thinking skills starting in Foundation to equip students with problem solving and resilience for their primary school lives and beyond.

Our classroom based programs focus on Oral Language, Literacy, Numeracy, Integrated Studies and Respectful Relationships. In addition to these students are also involved in:

  • Weekly specialist programs of Visual Arts, Performing Arts, Physical Education, STEM, Indonesian and library.
  • Buddy Program with Year Six students. Each Foundation child is paired up with one or two Year Six students to help with a smooth transition from pre-school to primary school, meet and complete activities together and sometimes play together during recess and lunch breaks.
  • A variety of Incursions and Excursions throughout the year linked to Term topics. In 2022 so far we've been visited by Tom the Beekeeper from Coastal Nectar as part of our Minibeasts studies, and have an Urban Upcycling incursion coming up linked to our investigations on Materials.
