Thank you to everyone for a great start to the term. Everything is going along smoothly and all the students have settled in well after the Easter break. Our Grade Fives are up in Sovereign Hill, and our Grade Six students are really excited about their upcoming trip to Canberra. Thanks once again to our staff for making camps such as these possible.
Fun, coordination and fitness – In true Bellbrae tradition of offering our kids diverse opportunities, on Tuesday students and staff had a lunchtime session of fun participating in a Line-dancing Workshop. A big thank you to our very own ‘dancing queen,’ Kerry Lomas, for initiating and leading the activity.
STEM Incursion- In weeks 7 & 8 of Term 2 (Mon 31/05, Tues 01/06, Mon 07/06, Tues 08/06), students will participate in the science incursion, ‘Chemistry Chaos’. The aim of these sessions is to explore the changing properties of chemicals from solids to liquids, chemical reactions, and why they occur. Mad About Science Incursions will run the sessions for all students from Foundation to Grade 6. All information, including payment and permission, will be made available via Compass.
Mother’s Day Stall – We are soon approaching one of the most important days on our calendar, Mother’s Day. Although the special day is only next weekend, we are offering our students the chance to buy a small gift from our stall tomorrow, and on Monday for kids who have been away on camp. Thank you to the mums who are running the stall, which is rather ironic as we should really have dad volunteers to do this role!
Building update – Firstly, thank you for your patience and understanding with all the recent traffic disruptions. The work outside the school is a result of the implementation of new water and sewerage pipes that will link the school to the town supply. This will take a lot of pressure off the school who has had to harvest its own water and treat all sewerage on site in the past. On another positive note, the new building is running ahead of schedule, and it seems students will be able to move in at the start of next term. This is very exciting and all staff will do an official tour of the building in the coming weeks. As two portables will be moved during this term, two of our Grade One classes will be temporarily housed in the current STEM Room for a few weeks later this term. Once students move into the new building, work will begin on the construction of the Gymnasium. As some existing portables will be moved during the mid-year break, please keep bear in mind that the entire campus will be closed and inaccessible in the June/July holidays.
Have a lovely weekend and make the most of the ‘social freedom’ we currently have. Unfortunately many countries are in the grip of Covid, and our thoughts go out to all the people who are suffering, and don’t have the quality of life we are fortunate to enjoy here in Australia.
