Welcome back to school for an exciting and busy Term Two. A special welcome to the new families who have joined our community, and I’m certain they will enjoy a long and happy association with our school.

ANZAC Day – This Friday we will be holding a special ANZAC Assembly at 11.40 on the Basketball Court.  The ceremony will be led by our School Captains and will include wreath laying by all year levels. Essentially the service honours and remembers those who have served the country in times of war and conflict. Unfortunately due to Covid restrictions, there will not be a Dawn Service at Point Danger this year, where our School Captains usually represent the school. (Just a reminder that Monday is not a Public Holiday.)

CommunicationAs a school we continually strive to improve our communication with parents and the community. Please remember that the following are all ways to ensure we have a great home/school partnership and are able to share information:

  • Weekly Newsletter.
  • The school website, which has a diverse range of forms, policies and easily accessible information.
  • Compass – Our online platform for news alerts, payments and permissions.
  • Semester reports, Parent/Teacher Interviews, Learning Expos, Information Sessions, ‘Meet n Greet.’
  • Seesaw – a digital platform to share student learning with parents.
  • Student diaries.
  • Personal meetings with teachers, ES Staff and Principals.
  • Appointments with our Welfare Officers.
  • School Tours.
  • Attendance at Assemblies.
  • Telephones – please leave a message if you can’t get through.

School Camps and excursions – With most restrictions now lifted, our students are now able to enjoy the fantastic experience of an annual school camp once again. Over the next few weeks our Grade Six students are heading off to Canberra, and our Grade Five classes are excited about their trip to Sovereign Hill. A big thank you to staff who give up their time to allow our kids to enjoy these opportunities.

Curriculum Day – On Monday all staff members spent the day participating in professional learning activities focussed on improving teaching and learning in mathematics. We have developed a new maths pedagogical model and have dedicated a significant amount of time and resources to further build the capacity of our maths teachers.

Cyclists – We love to see our students riding to school, but please be aware that some work is currently being conducted on the Service Road that runs alongside the Great Ocean Road. This work is related to the new water supply for the school and we hope it doesn’t disrupt our bike riders for too long.

It seems we might be having an early blast of winter, but at least it has also delivered a good run of surf and it’s been great to see so many students and their families making the most of it. It’s also been fantastic to see heaps of Bellbrae kids playing formal team sports, riding their bikes, skating, walking their dogs and generally, ‘just being kids!’ Have a great weekend.
